Shinshuren has many kinds of international activities. For example, it
had representatives at the U.N.'s second Special Session on Disarmament
(SSD II) in 1982 and SSD III in 1988 as one of the Japanese NGOs. It has
also been committed to international projects of U.N. and WCRP.
In 1991 Shinshuren established an " International Relief Foundation
" in order to support humanitarian relief projects for refugees and
other desperate people. Activities have included events in Myanmar in 1992,
floods in Nepal in 1993, and the Hanshin-Awaji, Japan earthquake in 1995.
When the Gulf war broke out in1991, in cooperation with Catholic and Protestant
Christian groups in Japan, Shinshuren founded the GERE(Gulf Evacuees Relief
Committee) which has provided relief for many war refugees and evacuees.
Shinshuren has sent many volunteers to various places in the Middle-East.
And it has participated in many kinds of international activities devoted
to world peace, including the Religious Summit meeting at Mt. Hiei and
the international Gathering for Prayer for World Peace.
