The Structure of Shinshuren


Shinshuren was established as a legal foundation in 1951, as a federation of new religious organizations in Japan. The first president was the Rev. Tokuchika Miki,Patriach of the Church of Perfect Liberty; the second, the Rev. Nikkyo Niwano,Founder of Rissho Kosei Kai; the third, the Rev. Yasusaburo Tazawa, Patriarch of Shoroku Shinto Yamatoyama; the fourth the Rev.Mitsuhiro Fukata, Patriach of Enno-kyo.

At present Shinshuren represents sixty-six religious oraganizatins.

The Board of Directors is concerned with all activities of Shinshuren. There are four committees--a finance committee, a planning committee, a committee on politics and religion, and a committee on freedom of faith--and two research associations, one on religion and society and one on human rights. The Federation has offices in Tokyo and Osaka.

Shinshuren has eleven divisions and fifty five branches within divisions. Every division develops a variety of activities based on yearly plan adopted by the Board of Directors. The branches also develop various kinds of activities, including inter-religious dialogue, in accord with local conditions.
