The Youth League of Shinshuren
The Shinshuren Youth Organization was organized in November of 1961 as
national federation of the youth groups of all of the member organizations.
Since its foundation, the Shinshuren Youth Organization has been actively
engage, both at home and abroad. In pursuit of the four goals discussed
above, it has pursued many-sided activities in social service, study, the
peace movement, and so on. The following two activities have been the focus
of their joint actions and have given rise to new activities.
The August 14th Assembly
Since 1960 on the evening of August 14, a Joint Memorial Service for those
killed in war and a Prayer Meeting for Peace have been held at a tomb at
Chidorigafuchi for those killed in war,Tokyo. These services are regarded
as " a pillar of practice," as they have rise to such subsequent
actions as a seminar on the problems of Okinawa, the dispatch of a peace
mission to Southeast Asia, and so forth.
The Youth Forum
A traditional speech contest for youth was converted to a new format called
"the Youth Forum" to discuss the overall activities of Shinshuren.
It is called "a pillar of theory," as young officers from all
over the country meet to discuss how to promote further unity and progress.
Other Activities
Shinshuren offers many opportunities for youth to participate in various
activities, such as the Leadership Training Seminar, the Campaign for Creating
a Peace Found from Small Change, and the like. In addition, each regional
federation organizes its own unique local activities.
In 1995, the Shinshuren Youth League started " Action 21," a
new program of religious youth for the 21st century. Shinshuren young people
had a relief project for children emotionally injured by the civil war
in former Yugoslavia.
